Zaragoza Innovates in Urban Play with Vertical Labyrinths
Proyecto: Children Playground
Fecha: April 2026
Ubicación: Zaragoza (Spain)
The city of Zaragoza has introduced a new play space on Avenida de Navarra with the installation of Vertical Labyrinths by Industrias Agapito, a playground manufacturer. This innovative proposal transforms the traditional concept of a children’s playground into a dynamic, inclusive experience with a strong urban impact.
This project introduces a new model of play that combines physical activity, cognitive stimulation, and architectural design, while also contributing to the revitalization of the urban environment. The Vertical Labyrinths, designed by urban architect Carlos Martín La Moneda, were created with the aim of generating play spaces that activate social life and add value to neighborhoods and urban areas.
The park features two distinct elements adapted to different age groups. On one hand, the Contrast Labyrinth 01, a playset designed for children aged 0 to 6, offers a sensory and psychomotor route through two interconnected octagonal spaces. This design creates a small universe of exploration where children experience basic actions such as entering and exiting, going up and down, and appearing and disappearing—essential in early childhood development.
The structure includes access points with reinforced rubber curtains that introduce tactile play and spatial awareness, as well as interactive panels focused on fine motor skills and mental stimulation, reinforcing the educational value of the installation.
On the other hand, the park incorporates the Vertical Labyrinth Linear Walk 02, a larger structure that proposes an elevated route through eight alternating levels of play. This element combines various access and movement systems such as knot ropes, a vertical climbing wall, suspended platforms, tunnels, nets, and sliding bars, creating an active, challenging, and diverse play experience.
Among its most notable features are a lookout point with a transparent skylight, a spiral cave-style slide, and a curved stainless-steel vertical tunnel, all of which add dynamism and visual appeal to the structure. The installation is designed to develop skills such as coordination, balance, agility, and spatial awareness, within a safe environment where fall heights are controlled.
The combination of both elements turns this space into a meeting point for different age groups, encouraging shared play and social interaction. In addition, its sculptural design and innovative character contribute to revitalizing the urban environment, becoming a focal point for families and local residents.
With this project, Industrias Agapito reinforces its commitment to innovation in the design of public spaces, developing solutions that not only meet the needs of children’s play but also generate urban, social, and economic value in cities.
