Vertical Labyrinths Arrive in Madrid Region

The Madrid municipality of Alcorcón has opened a new playground designed to transform play into an experience of exploration, movement and discovery. The project, developed with equipment from Industrias Agapito, offers an innovative proposal in which climbing, balance and elevated routes take centre stage, providing children with a space that combines physical activity, creativity and shared play.

At the heart of the playground are the Vertical Labyrinths, a series designed by architect and urban planner Carlos Martín Lamoneda to address one of the major challenges of contemporary urban design: creating highly engaging play areas while occupying as little space as possible. Conceived as genuine urban sculptures, these structures offer continuous routes that stimulate coordination, balance and children’s confidence, while users explore the interior through experiences involving climbing, descending, entering and exiting.

In Alcorcón, the Vertical Labyrinth Linear Walk model has been installed. This structure, more than four metres high, is arranged across four play levels connected by knot ropes, suspended platforms, a hanging sphere ladder, access tunnels, a fireman’s pole and a large spiral slide that brings the route to an exciting finish. Its design maintains a reduced fall height, ensuring user safety without sacrificing the sense of adventure and discovery.

The proposal is complemented by a Hexagonal Rope Course, an installation that expands the possibilities for active play through different suspended routes. The course incorporates position-changing bridges, obstacles at different heights, suspended platforms, vertical nets and step bridges, creating a variety of challenges that promote the development of motor skills, coordination and balance as children explore and overcome new challenges.

The playground also features different pieces from the iconic Veleta series, including swings, a playset with a slide and equipment designed to promote balance, coordination and physical activity. The play offer is completed with two spinning bowls that provide new movement experiences and sensory stimulation for users.

The entire play area features continuous safety surfacing made from rubber and in-situ EPDM, a solution that provides impact attenuation in the event of falls and improves the accessibility of the space. It also allows the area to be customised with different colours and designs. The playground is enclosed by a children’s metal fence with coloured slats, providing protection for the play area and visual integration with its surroundings.

With this new project, Industrias Agapito, playground equipment manufacturer, continues to develop spaces that embrace new ways of understanding play. The combination of playful architecture, adventure routes, physical activity and psychomotor stimulation creates more dynamic and attractive urban spaces capable of offering different play experiences for children of all ages.
