Teruel’s Plaza de la Cultura unveils a new inclusive playground

Plaza de la Cultura in Teruel continues to strengthen its position as a leading public space for children’s leisure with the addition of a new inclusive playground that expands and complements the existing play area. This new section completes the project developed by Industrias Agapito in January 2024, when a giant spaceship completely transformed the square into a universe of play and imagination.

With this expansion, the play area gains diversity, accessibility, and new possibilities for shared play. The goal is clear: to create an environment where all children can play, interact, and enjoy equally, regardless of age or ability.

The new area features a variety of play elements that encourage movement, balance, and interaction. Swinging, spinning, and group-play equipment are distributed throughout the space to offer varied experiences suited to different paces. Among the highlights is the Los Pinceles inclusive group swing, which allows several children to swing at the same time, encouraging social interaction and turning play into a shared experience.

The play journey is completed with spring riders, group seesaws, carousels, and rotating elements that enhance the play offering and stimulate coordination, imagination, and collaborative play. All the equipment has been designed with physical and cognitive accessibility in mind, incorporating solutions that support the participation of children with reduced mobility and ensure real inclusion within the play space.

As a distinctive feature, the playground also includes educational elements. The Planetarium playhouse introduces children to the universe through play, sparking curiosity about space, planets, and astronomical phenomena in an open and accessible environment.

This new play area joins the already iconic Galáctica inclusive playset, installed in the square in January 2024. This large spaceship has become one of the city’s most unique playgrounds and a regular meeting point for families. Designed as a play area in itself, Galáctica offers a space adventure where climbing, sliding, exploring, and learning all form part of the same immersive experience.

Inspired by the exploration of the universe, this themed ensemble invites children to develop imagination, creativity, motor skills, and teamwork. Its inclusive design ensures that children of different abilities can actively participate in the adventure, accessing various zones and adapted play features within the structure.

With this second intervention, Plaza de la Cultura is now established as a comprehensive, inclusive, and educational play space, where playground design goes beyond entertainment to become a tool for coexistence, integration, and shared enjoyment for the entire city.
